YOUNG MILLERS SUFFER HEARTBREAKING PENALTY SHOOTOUT LOSS

So with the scoreline goalless a penalty shoot out ensued to decide who would go through. By this time the rain had got heavier and was torrential, not easy conditions as each player stepped up to the spot at the Middle Park Avenue end of the ground. What followed was some seriously good penalty taking although inevitably eventually one of the misses, there were only three in the whole shoot out which finished 9-8, proved fatal. The young Millers can be proud of their performance, they gave everything but will of course be disappointed.

YOUNG MILLERS AND CHATS FINISH GOALLESS
Cray Valley (PM): Wicks, Knight, Hutchings, Flockton, Woods (c), Boyle (Doyle 75), Gilchrist, Turner, Jones, Igwe, Corner (Egharevba 65)

It finished goalless at the Bauville Stadium and a point a piece for both teams in this Isthmian Youth League East Division fixture. Valley will feel a little frustrated having created the more chances but were unable to find the decisive finish. Town had fewer opportunities but when they did found Valley keeper Aidan Wicks there to thwart them.
The first half saw Cray on the front foot with Riley Woods, Obi Igwe and Malachy Turner all going close. Second half started in similar fashion with Valley in search of a goal but shots from Woods and Oliver Knight couldn't quite find the target. On the hour mark a quick break from Town opened up the Millers defence but Wicks in goal blocked the cross-shot against his near post and behind for a corner. Ten minutes later after a mix up in the Valley defence, Wicks was called into action, blocking the ball on the edge of his area, from the breakaway Igwe was sent clear and his shot deflected off the keeper and narrowly wide for a corner.
Despite a late onslaught from Valley which saw Osamede Egharevba chip the keeper and clipping the top of the crossbar before going over and Igwe forcing the Town's keeper to make a smart save, that elusive goal just wouldn't come and they had to settle for a point.

Match Report:
The young Millers progressed to the semi finals of the U18 Isthmian League Youth Cup beating last seasons Central Champions Kingstonian 4-2 on penalties after the game finished 1-1 on 90 minutes.
They will now meet fellow East Division side Tonbridge Angles at the The Halcyon Wealth Longmead Stadium on Monday 19th February ko 19.45pm. The other semi final will be contested by Worthing and Woking.
After a bright start from the K’s, Valley opened the scoring in the 8th minute as Obinna Igwe found himself one-on-one with the keeper, and calmly slotted home.
The K’s went in search of a equaliser and The Millers under pressure, were putting their bodies on the line to protect their lead. However the home side continued to create chances on the break with Igwe firing over at the end of an excellent passage of passing play in the build up. Shortly after Igwe nearly converted Malachy Turner's ball in as he slid but his outstretched leg could only blast over from 2 yards.
The K’s equalised on 40 minutes from close range, claims for a foul out wide were waived away and the ball into the box was tucked away.
Second half and both sides had a goal ruled out, Stanley Flockton appeared to have increased Valley’s lead with a header from a corner but the whistle had gone for an infringement. In the closing minutes the K’s thought they had won it after a quick breakaway but the assistant’s flag was raised for offside.
So with the scores level at 90 minutes we went into a penalty shoot out. Liam Hutchings for Valley was first up and scored as did the visitors. Valley went 2-1 ahead but only after a re-take was ordered, the K’s keeper being adjudged to have come off his line early in making the save. Oliver Knight made no mistake with the second opportunity. From the very next kick Aidan Wicks the Valley keeper made an all important save. Obi Igwe and Mal Turner both found the back of the net and with the scoreline 4-2 the K’s needed to score to stay in the shoot out. The ball was well struck but it grazed the top of the cross bar and over. Valley were through and joyous scenes from the home team ensued. Tough on the K’s but such is the lottery of shoot outs.

Match Report:
A terrific hard working performance from the young Millers saw them overcome a good Worthing side to win the Isthmian Youth League Cup on a wet night at South Park. Valley got off to a perfect start taking the lead in the third minute, a quick break from a corner kick saw Malachy Turner carry the ball forward before setting Obinna Igwe clear on the corner of the penalty area. Igwe drew the keeper before slotting home into the far corner.
That lead was doubled on 17 minutes Turner exchanging passes with Igwe before hitting a shot from 25 yards which deflected off a defender to wrong foot the keeper and nestle into the top corner. Both teams pressed forward looking for the next goal, Oliver Knight going close for Valley and Adian Wicks in the Valley goal reacting quickly coming off his line to divert an advancing striker's shot wide for a corner. Half tine and it remained 2-0 but Worthing had shown enough to suggest the game was far from over.
After a bright start by Valley following the interval, it was Worthing who started to make the running forcing Valley to defend well on a number of occasions. Their pressure paid off when in the 71st minute they pulled a goal back, Evan Hoarty's long range curling shot evading Wicks outstretched hand and flying into the top corner.
Thereafter Valley endured a nervy last 20 minutes or so as Worthing chased the game looking for an equaliser to force a penalty shoot out. Valley though held firm and went close themselves towards the end, a last ditch tackle from the Worthing defender Danny Jordan thwarting Igwe on the counter. Five added minutes increased the tension but it remained 2-1 and it was the green and black shirts of Valley that celebrated the final whistle with a deserved victory.

Match Report:
The young Millers kept alive their chance to secure back to back league titles but were given a late scare by a determined Glebe side. Two first half goals and a hatful of missed chances gave Valley a comfortable two goal lead at half time. Such though is the unpredictability of football saw Glebe cause a real scare in the second half. They pulled a goal back shortly after the re-start and although Valley continued to create chances, one miss in particular from Obinna Igwe comes to mind, it was Glebe in the ascendancy thereafter. The equaliser came in the 83rd minute and it was Valley holding on at the end to earn a vital point.
Things had been very different in the opening half with countless chances being created by Valley as they passed the ball well. Victor Damyanov was a threat on the right and it was no surprise when the breakthrough came in the 26th minute. A throw in found Emmanuel Eyin in the box who found space to fire home past the keeper low into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Malachy Turner added a second just before the interval, breaking into the area and taking his time to calmly place the ball into the back of the net.
How things then changed in the second half. The point does mean though that Valley can secure the title on goal difference ahead of Welling United by winning their final game against Sheppey United which takes place on Monday at the Artic Stadium, kick off 19.45pm.

Match Report:
Manager Graham Knight and his team ensured their time together continues for one more game as they reached the final of the Champions Trophy with an heroic display at Imber Court last night against a very good young Met Police side.
Valley were quick out of the blocks and took the lead in the fifth minute, a cross into the middle was punched clear by the keeper, it fell to Victor Damyanov from fully 20 yards out and he powered a first time volley into the back of the net. Two minutes later the lead was doubled Arinze Chukwujekwu sliding the ball low past the keeper to finish after good build up play.
As the half wore on both keepers were called into the action but it was Aidan Wicks in the Valley goal who was the busier. Just after the half hour Chukwujekwu did find the back of the net again but it was ruled out for offside. The Blues pressure finally paid off and they pulled a goal back on 39 minutes, Hugo Hill side footing home from just inside the box.
After a bright start to the second half Valley were pushed onto the back foot and had to work hard to repel the home attacks. The equaliser coming on 71 minutes, good delivery from the corner kick from Harvey Ball finding its way into the back of the net with the final touch from Jamal Sharpe. With the Blues now on top Wicks made a good save low down to keep the scores level. However as so often has happened this season Valley found a way and somewhat against the run of play they re-took the lead in the 81st minute. Emmanuel Erin's shot was blocked by the keeper but Malachy Turner anticipated well and fired home fthe rebound from close range.
The Blues continued to press and Wicks made two quick saves. With the clock ticking down the Blues levelled things up in the 90th minute, a weaving run into the box and a good finish into the bottom corner from Sharpe. Added time played and it remained 3-3 at the final whistle. The semi-final would be decided on penalties.
The Blues up first and confidently put away low into the bottom corner, this would become a feature from both sides, Liam Hutchings, Eyin, Turner and Damyanov all scoring their spot kicks for Valley and the score stood at 4-4. The fifth Blues penalty was again well struck but this time Wicks guessed right and saved low down. It was left for Valley captain Riley Woods to step up to score to win the tie, he duly did to the delight of all his teammates and the bench.

Match Report:
The young Millers journey came to an end in defeat but Graham Knight and his team can be proud of their efforts in what has been a truly inspiring and wonderful two seasons in the Isthmian Youth league. Champions of the East Division both this and the previous season and winners of the league Cup last month, also against tonights opponents. The two sides met in last seasons Champions of Champions Cup Final, the young Millers came out on top 12 months ago but tonight Worthing were worthy winners.
Osamede Egharebva gave Valley a very early lead, receiving Alex Jones through pass he ran into the box, turned inside the defender before slotting the ball in at the near post. The Rebels equalised on 38 minutes, Ben Royall direct from the free kick edge of the area, firing low, past the wall and Aidan Wicks in goal, into the bottom corner.
Two uncharacteristic defensive errors either side of the interval saw Stan Berry score twice for the Rebels to open up a 3-1 lead, The first a mis-placed cross field back pass giving Berry an open goal to walk the ball into and the second possession lost in their own penalty area and Berry on hand to capitalise.
Shortly after Valley spurned good chances with Arinze Chukwujekwu twice and Egharebva having efforts saved by the keeper when one on one. At the other end Wicks was forced into making a couple of good blocks himself as Valley pushed forward to get back in the game. Victor Damyanov and Riley Woods both saw shots fly just past the posts and Malachy Turner went close, his shot hitting the inside of both posts with the follow up kept out by an excellent block from the defender.
Had one of those chances gone in, then maybe just maybe but overall the Rebels fully deserved their win.

Young Millers dejected after losing but can be proud of their efforts.
