YOUNG MILLERS IN SEVENTH HEAVEN
The Young Millers overcame a stubborn and resolute side to progress to the next round of the FA Youth Cup. Good luck to our visitors from Hextable for the rest of the season.
Sutton started brightly and it took a while for Cray to get into their stride. The opening goal came after 15 minutes when a free kick for Cray came back off the cross bar and Harry Hopper was on hand to knock the ball in from close to range to give Cray the lead. It remained a close affair and on the half hour Sutton scored a deserved equaliser as Michael Add Abiola headed home off the post from a corner.
Cray were starting to find their feet and confidence grew as they re gained the lead on 38 minutes through Noah Joyce who found the bottom corner of the net from 25 yards. Cray then added two further goals, Harry Day on the break, got beyond the Sutton defence and calmly slotted past the keeper on 43 and a minute later Flint David King burst through the Sutton defence and powered a shot into the far corner. Half Time 4-1 and the initiative now very much with the hosts.
On the hour Noah Joyce added his second and Cray's fifth by curling a free kick from 28 yards into the top corner. A pattern of excellent goals had already been set and in the final couple of minutes two absolute worldies from David Flint-King, the first a top class finish into the top corner from 25 yards. The second a flick over the Sutton keeper to complete his hat trick and finish the game with a florish.

MILLERS MARCH ON
The young Millers progressed to the next round of the FA Youth Cup beating local rivals Phoenix Sports 4-2 at the Artic Stadium. They will now face Bexhill United or Alfold who play this evening.
We send our best wishes to Phoenix Sports defender Callum Hudson who, following a 4th minute challenge, was stretchered off the field of play and taken to hospital with an ankle injury. We hope for a quick recovery!
Phoenix Sports gained an early advantage in the 7th minute when Eugene Maloney converted a cross from the left from close range!
Phoenix Sports were dominant in the early stages however the Millers slowly came to terms with their opponents as they battled to get back into the match.
By the half hour the Millers were pressing hard. They were denied a couple of penalty shouts and forced the visiting keeper into a couple of good saves but still trailed.
The equaliser came on 41 minutes, Josh Kelsey firing home after the keeper parried an Antonio Dos Santos shot at his near post!
Two minutes later and the Millers were in front, Noah Joyce jinking into the box and lifted the ball over the advancing keeper. After a slow start the Millers took a 2-1 advantage into the second half.
The scores were level though on 54 minutes
when a low cross towards the near post was only half held by the Millers keeper and the assistant ref confirmed the ball had bounced over the line.
It wasn’t long though before the Millers were back in front when on 56 minutes, Harry Day drove into the box, driving a shot beyond the keepers reach! 3-2
The Millers made the game safe on 77 minutes, Teddy Baughen was felled in the box, Harry Day fired home from the spot!
The Millers saw the game out to win 4-2 and progress to the next round.

YOUNG MILLERS REACH FIRST ROUND PROPER
A terrific victory, full of character coming from behind twice saw the young Millers book a place in the FA Youth Cup First Round Proper for the first time after beating a resilient Bexhill United 3-2, the winner coming five minutes from time.
The Millers had the first chance of the game Harry Day's shot deflected into the arms of the Pirates keeper. In the tenth minute the Pirates Luka Mahnas was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and Aaron Cook sent Alex Nika the wrong way to score from the penalty. The majority of the home support felt it was a harsh decision but the referee later confirmed that from a different angle he felt the defender just caught the man first before the ball.
The Millers quickly restored parity two minutes later when Jonathon Lawson rounded the keeper and chipped over the despairing defender. Oliver Hull for the Pirates then brought a flying save form Nika in the home goal. 26 minutes in and a collision in the box between Jude Salmon and Oliver Hull was deemed worthy of a second penalty to the Pirates. Nika getting close to Aaron Cook's penalty this time but the ball still found the back of the net and the Pirates regained the lead.
Once again the Millers responded and eight minutes later Antonio Dos Santos weaved his way into the box before applying a slick finish to equalise. The Millers then went close a couple of times before the break which came with the scoreline 2-2.
Second half saw the Millers enjoy the majority of possession as they pressed forward and started to apply pressure on the Pirates goal looking for a winner through a series of corner kicks. 77 minutes saw a Millers shot whistle past the upright. Then with five minutes of normal time remaining and the prospect of a penalty shoot out looming the goal which the Millers deserved finally came. Sonnie Watson did well winning a tackle out wide passed to Jamie Obianigne whose dangerous low cross was turned into his own net from close in by the Pirates number 10.
Final score 3-2 and the Millers wait with interest for the draw to find out who their opponents will be in the first round proper.

YOUNG MILLERS BOW OUT WITH HEADS HELD HIGH
The young Millers were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup last night in the first round proper, reached for the first time, by a single first half goal against Aldershot Town in front of an excellent crowd of 192 at the Artic Stadium.
The Shots started well although the Millers gradually grew into the game and ironically it was somewhat against the run of play that the Shots took the lead on 35 minutes. Mackenzie Toms chipped the ball through the middle and Finn Evans beat the offside and slotted home low into the corner giving Alex Nika in the Millers goal no chance. Up and until that point it was the Millers who had created the clearer openings, Harry Day with a header, but unable to get sufficient power behind it and on another occasion Jonathan Lawson broke well at pace to earn a corner. The ever dependable Jack Beerling at the back made a dangerous forward run through the middle only to be chopped down by the Shots defender.
Shortly after the interval still trailing by the only goal the Millers brought on Flint David-King who immediately made an impact as the search for an equaliser went on. As the Millers pushed forward inevitably gaps appeared at the back and keeper Nika was forced to make a fine save to prevent them from increasing the lead. Sonnie Waitson also made a well timed last ditch tackle and when Shots substitute Edward Stephen-Truman did put the ball into the net close in at the far post from an Evans cross he was correctly ruled offside.
Jude Salmon worked hard in the middle and perhaps the best chance to equalise came after Day turned well in the penalty area, laid the ball back but the oncoming shot from the edge of the box went over the top. There were a few shouts for possible penalties but it was not to be and it finished 0-1.
Over the 90 minutes the Shots deserved the win looking a bit stronger on the ball and they certainly worked hard to close the Millers down to stop them passing the ball as we know they can. Louis Dean's young Millers can certainly hold their heads high after this narrow defeat and their achievement in the competition reaching the first round proper.

YOUNG MILLERS OFF TO A FLYER
Our U18 team kicked off the club's first ever season in the U18 Isthmian Youth League with a fine victory against Tonbridge Angels U18 and more importantly a chance to finally get back to some competitive football for these young lads, the first for many months.
There was barely 60 seconds on the clock when Flint David King latched on to a loose ball and fired low into the corner of the net to put Cray Valley ahead. The dream start continued with a fine finish from Harry Day ten minutes later, Tonbridge Angels then hit the bar before Cray added a third on 15 minutes from Noah Joyce. It was entertaining stuff and the Angels pulled a goal back through Harry London on 25 minutes. Half Time 3-1
Angels had chances but the only goal of the second half came on 74 minutes when Harry Hopper timed his jump to perfection to head over the advancing keeper from a free kick outside the box. Full Time 4-1

YOUNG MILLERS CONTINUE WINNING RUN
Joshua Serry-Kemal in action
The young Millers made it six wins from their opening six league games in the U18 Isthmian Youth East Division with four of them at home at the Artic Stadium. Glebe proved to be resilient opponents and Cray Valley had to battle all the way to secure the points.
An even first half was lit up in the 37th minute with what was described by the onlooking Dougie (a man who has seen a fair amount of football over the years) as "blinding football" when captain Jude Salmon applied an excellent finish from the edge of the box receiving the ball after a fine piece of build up play down the right hand side. Half Time 1-0
Glebe were on top and enjoyed periods of possession at the start of the second half however the momentum changed when Cray Valley extended their lead through another excellent goal in the 69th minute. Noah Joyce and Joshua Sorry-Kamal combined well, keeping possession near the corner flag on the left hand side, the ball was laid back to Sonnie Waitson who fired in a spectacular strike from out wide which beat the keeper and dipped under the cross bar into the back of the net. 2-0
Thereafter it was Cray Valley in the ascendency with Flint David King going close before a Harry Day shot struck the cross bar. Glebe did create chances forcing Alex Nika to make a save, on another occasion the ball was cleared off the line and Harry Hopper made a good block. Cray Valley though finished strongly and Glebe had their keeper to thank as first he did well to keep out a Noah Joyce corner as it swung in under the cross bar and then saved a Harry Day penalty diving to his left after Day himself was brought down.

YOUNG MILLERS RECORD SHATTERED BY STONES
The young Millers looking to make it 7 wins from 7 leagues starts saw their 100% record shattered as two late late goals from the Stones snatched a point in a 2-2 draw.
The Millers wearing a change strip of all white were on top in the opening 15 minutes or so, Jonathan Lawson's close range effort was blocked by the keeper then the same player saw his shot deflected wide. Flint David-King had a shot turned round the post by the keeper while a scramble on the goal line from the corner was eventually cleared. Lawson again went close on the break his effort hitting the side netting.
As the Stones started to get in the game they forced a corner. Alex Nika tipped over a header before a second corner was headed back across goal and a shot from a tight angle planted into the side netting. A free kick for the Stones was headed goal wards and Nika pulled off an outstanding one handed save to keep the ball out of the net.
Rasheed Tijani volleyed over from a corner for the Millers before finally the opening goal came on 38 minutes. The corner this time was headed back by Jamie Obianigwe for Harry Hopper to head home from close range.
Just before the break Josh Kelsey hit a fine effort from outside the box which the keeper did well to tip over the bar and away for a corner. Half Time and the Millers led 1-0.
The lead was extended five minutes after the re-start, Lawson chased a long ball into the area and was tugged back by a defender the decision for a penalty being made by the assistant on the far side. It looked soft but Joshua Sorry-Kamal fired home from the spot to take a two goal lead.
The next twenty minutes saw both teams battling it out with the defences standing strong and goal chances at a premium. David-KIng had a shot parried by the keeper and later fired over the bar after a good ball from Harry Day put him through. The Stones saw a shot flash just wide of the goal as it remained 0-2.
On 85 minutes Day appeared to be felled in the box, but no penalty was the decision. Day then produced a shot across the face of goal followed at the other end with the Stones going close, a shot just over Nika's bar.
With two minutes of normal time remaining the Stones pulled a goal back, Joseph Terry striking a low free kick from just outside the box through the wall to set up a tense finish. John Openibo had a shot narrowly wide. In added time the Stones snatched an equaliser from a corner, the ball bounced around in the six yard box before being stabbed home from close range by Jaiden Flisher. 2-2
The Stones had rallied well in the final minutes and certainly applied pressure, the delight shown on equalising was there for all to see, whilst the Millers will rue earlier missed opportunities and feel they should have seen the game out. 100% league record gone but still remain unbeaten. An excellent game of football and a tribute to both sides.

DAY HAT TRICK AS YOUNG MILLERS TRIUMPH OVER ANGELS
]
The young Millers returned to the top of the Isthmian Youth East Division with a comprehensive win over Tonbridge Angels last night. Sutton Common Rovers though we feel they are very much in the driving seat for the title with five games in hand and just five points adrift.
Cray have been utilising a much younger squad in recent games in this league with a number of the side that started the season now stepping up for our U23 Development side. Manager Graham Knight said after last night's victory "...good performance overall. Really pleased with the way the younger ones are adapting..."
Cray opened the scoring in the 11th minute, Harry Day did well beating a couple of defenders before sending a dangerous low cross into the six yard box which was turned into the net by the under pressure defender Max Lambert for an own goal. Angels equalised almost immediately after the unlucky Sinayomi Abiola handled in the box. Finlay Wolvey scored the penalty.
On 25 minutes Abiola drove forward, on a mission as if to atone for his misfortune in giving away the penalty, and after shrugging off the challenges fired across the keeper low into the far corner to restore Cray's lead. Cray were very much in the ascendency after this and Jonathan Lawson went close a couple of times before Day added a third on 37th Minutes. Before the interval Cray were awarded penalty after a foul on Day, Josh Kelsey stepped up but saw his effort was well saved by the Angels keeper Matt Larkin.
Start of the second half and Angels enjoyed a period of possession creating a number of chances. Aiden Wicks in the Cray goal gave a confident display and was alert on a number of occasions to thwart any danger. Cray made the game safe with two goals in very quick succession on 73 and 74 minutes, Day adding his second and Kelsey making it 5-1. Day completed his hat tick and topped a fine display in the closing minute stooping low to head home a free kick from close range.

Corinthian scored a late winner to dent any hopes Cray harboured of winning the Isthmian Youth East title. An even contest certainly provided plenty of entertaining football at the Artic Stadium last night. Barney Sullivan the Cray assistant manager remained smiling at the end, knowing it is about the young players development and the fact that they will continue to learn and improve from results like this.
Cray took an early lead in the fifth minute through Josh Kelsey. However four minutes later the Hoops equalised Finley Sillence scoring from the penalty spot, and then took the lead in the 25th minute, Thomas Mitcham the scorer. Oliver Knight the Cray right back was on hand to score from close in to level things up just before the interval. HT 2-2
Second half and chances at both ends, Khiani Ofuyaekpone-Shombe the Cray keeper made an excellent save in the midst of a series of shots being blocked by the defence as the ball rebounded around the area. At the other end Flint David-King enjoyed a couple of excellent runs with the Hoops keeper doing well and blocking with his feet to stop the shot.
As the final whistle approached a draw looked the likely result but the Hoops were victorious, Jeremiah Pinder scoring the winner with only minutes left on the clock. FT 2-3

YOUNG MILLERS FIVE STAR FINISH TO THE SEASON
The U18 Isthmian Youth completed their season with a 5-2 victory against South Park at the Artic Stadium on Thursday evening.
A big well done to manager Graham Knight who has overseen the second half of the season, taking over at the beginning of February for the final nine league games with a much younger squad. Changes resulted in many of the squad that started the league season and enjoyed an excellent run in the FA Youth Cup eventually beaten in the first round proper by Aldershot Town stepping up to play for the U23 Development squad. The younger players who started the season playing in the Kent Youth League have certainly stepped up to the plate themselves.
The final game of the season against South park saw both teams contribute to an entertaining evening. Jonathan Lawson opened the scoring for Cray breaking beyond the Park's defence to cooly slide the ball past the keeper in the fourth minute. Park equalised six minutes later before Cray regained the lead on 38 minutes, A free kick was headed goal wards and the keeper saved but Aex Jones on hand to slot home the rebound from close range. The lead was extended just before the interval Lawson adding his second of the night, broke into the box, turned his marker and fired his shot across the keeper into the top corner. HT 3-1
Second half and a scramble in the penalty area saw the ball eventually fall to a South Park player who slammed the ball home. 3-2 On the hour Parks went down to ten men, after winning a free kick wide on the left a player reacted to the tackle and earned himself a red card from the referee.
Cray substitues Flint David-KIng and Osamede Egharevba were introduced into the action and combined well for the former to to slot home on 73 minutes to make it 4-2. Cray added a fifth an excellent finish form Eghareveba twisting into the box and firing high into the box from the angle with a couple of minute remaining and Park were reduced to nine men following another red card this time for a foul. So five goals and a five star performance from a young Cray side to end their season.
