MID PRE-SEASON REVIEW WITH TOMMY OSBORNE

Richard J Green reports

As we take a week’s break from a hectic pre-season schedule, we reflect on where we stand as we look forward to a difficult journey to fellow 2019 FA Vase finalists Chertsey Town followed by the exciting prospects of home visits from Welling United and Leatherhead.

It’s certainly been an exciting period so far – four matches yielding 19 goals -, but for Assistant Manager Tommy Osborne it’s been the return to action of two players who have been out with long-term injuries which has been most satisfying.
“Having Jack Sammoutis and Nathaniel Blanks back is like having two new signings at the Club.
You could see in Saturday’s game (at Aveley) that Jack’s confidence to get on the ball and get us playing can be a massive plus for us this season.
Blanksy played his first 45 minutes for over a year and he will have the opportunity to get more minutes in the remaining three pre-season games – which again is such a positive for the Club as we believe he can be a real leader for us this season.”

One disturbing feature for Millers fans has been a series of knocks, strains and pulls which have afflicted the squad during this period.
“We have had a few injuries this pre-season which obviously hasn’t been ideal, but the knocks are all relatively short-term.
Ryan James is looking at around two weeks, while we are hoping Hassan and Greenie will be available for Saturday’s game.
Chris Lewington and Conor Dymond - who both suffered nasty cuts against Concord - have been stitched up now, so depending on how quickly they heal will determine when they’ll be available – fingers crossed it will be sooner rather than later……..

With the injuries has come opportunities for some of our younger lads – Jack Beerling has looked well beyond his 17 years whenever he has played with the first team, while the Lisbie twins definitely add pace and energy when they’ve been involved, as well as showing quality with young Kyrell scoring a really well taken goal against Concord Rangers.

With training now in full swing and three remaining pre-season games, we feel, come 14th August when we face Whitehawk, we’ll be in a position to go into that first league game full of confidence and be very competitive in all competitions this season.”

The match at Chertsey this coming Saturday is a Memorial Game for former Curfews President Steve Powers who passed away in April, and will kick off at Alwyns Lane, KT16 9DW at 3pm.

We then entertain Welling United at 3pm on Saturday 31st July, followed by Leatherhead on Tuesday 3rd August – kick off 7.45pm.

Spectators wishing to attend any of the above matches should remain aware of any Covid-19 restrictions the Government may have in place as we look to move towards a full, uninterrupted 2021/22 season.

Our home pre-season matches will be priced ;
