EMIRATES FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND - 19 AUG 2023 - ATT 117
LORDSWOOD 1 CRAY VALLEY (PM) 1
Goals: L - Jeffrey 12
CV - Lisbie 29
It finished all square at Martyn Grove this afternoon meaning the two sides will now contest a replay at The Artic Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The Lords took the lead on 12 minutes, Valley gave the ball away in the centre of the park from a mis-placed pass, a through ball split the defence and found James Jeffrey who took full advantage with a fine finish, firing low past Valley keeper Sam Freeman into the far corner. Chances at both ends followed but a crucial moment came just before the half hour mark. Lyle Della-Verde floated a free kick to the far post, Kyrell Lisbie was on hand to get the all important touch and score the equaliser from close range, the ball seemingly taking a deflection off the defender on the way in.
Shortly after Lisbie looked to be well placed to get a shot away inside the penalty area but went to ground under the challenge from the defender but to the dismay of the onlooking Valley supporters, the referee booked Lisbie for simulation.
After the interval with the score still level, again chances at both ends, Freeman making a good save from Jeffrey at his near post. However it was Tom Crump who was the busier of the two keepers as the game wore on, with notable saves from an Arthur Lee header and a Freddie Parker shot. There was another shout for a penalty when the hand of the Lords defender fell on the ball after a Denzel Gayle shot but the referee wasn't interested. Further saves by Crump followed from Gayle and then Lisbie as Valley finished the game strongly. In added time Gayle appeared to be tripped wide in the area but once again, after consulting his assistant, the referee's decision was no penalty, the foul being adjudged to have been just outside the box.

Credit to the Lords and their manager Matt Barman, his young & energetic side prevented Valley from imposing themselves on the match which was a tight and sometimes tense affair. Both sides will feel they could have won the game but will settle for being in Mondays next round draw with another chance on Tuesday evening to progress.
