MILLERS MAKE A GOOD POINT
PITCHING-IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION
DARTFORD 0 CRAY VALLEY (PM) 0 - 2 NOV 2024 - ATT 912
Guest Match Report: Chris Palmer for Dartford FC and the Non League Paper
Cray Valley (PM) earned a throughly deserved point at Dartford, as both sides fought for every inch of grass in a goalless draw in front 912 supporters. The Millers boss Steve McKimm was delighted with the result and rightly so, because his team, could have taken the win on another day. "It's a very good point for us as we've just come into this league" said McKimm. "It was a tough game and this is a tough place to come. On another day we might have scored two or three". He's absolutely right because, his team shot out of the blocks and pressed the hosts back from the start. Both Daniel Waldren and Freddie Parker had early opportunities, only for a combination of stern defending and an excellent Jacob Marsden kept the score goalless during the opening four minutes. Clement Asiedu forced a superb save out of Marsden in the 15th minute, before Parker couldn't find the target with the rebound.
However, the Darts did weather the early storm and, despite Cray Valley going on to create more chances overall, Dartford boss Day pennock was quick to praise his players for their efforts, particularly in defence. "I thought it was a good scrap" he said. "Of course we wanted the three points but, what we're going through at the moment has been tough, so I'm happy with the point." "Cray Valley are a very tough team to play against and they made it difficult for us. So I'm happy with the result." It's certainly a step in the right direction for the Darts, despite the struggling in the final third in particular. They didn't create too many opportunities this afternoon, but when they did, they found Max Ovenden in the way, such as in the 11th minute when he saved Denzelle Olopade's long range drive. Olly Box had an effort blocked before Jacob Marsden pulled off another fine save to stop Thomas Beere's 36th minute free kick from going in. The equally excellent Michael Olarewaju blocked the strike from the resulting corner: Freddie Parker sent a header wide, before Denzelle Olopade failed to test Max Ovenden five minutes later.
