NO FOOLING VALLEY AS PARKER SEALS THE POINTS
PITCHING-IN ISTHMIAN LEAGUE SE DIV
CRAY VALLEY (PM) 2 SEVENOAKS TOWN 1 - 1 APRIL 2024 - ATT 213
GOALS CV - Waldren 6, Parker 73
ST - Aboagye 35
There was no fooling the Millers on April 1st as goals from Danny Waldren and Freddie Parker gave them a hard fought but deserved three points against a hardworking Oaks side.
Valley got off to the best possible start taking the lead in the sixth minute, the ball broke to Danny Waldren just inside the box and he drilled the ball low into the bottom near corner. A period of sustained pressure followed with some excellent passing from Valley but somehow despite efforts from Kyrell Lisbie, Adam Coombes and Lyle Della-Verde they were unable to increase their lead. A combination of the Oaks keeper Colmer, defenders getting a block in and some off target shooting thwarted the hosts.
It was very much against the run of play and with virtually their first meaningful attack of the game that Oaks equalised in the 35th minute. Jerald Aboagye finishing well with a low shot across the keeper and into the far corner. Valley went in at the break rueing those missed earlier chances.
Second half and early on Oaks forced Max Ovenden in the Valley goal to make a couple of good blocks. At the other end a free kick for the hosts was headed back across goal by Arthur Lee, the ball falling to Sonny Black who hit the post but the assistants flag was raised for offside. Ex Oaks striker Parker came on as a substitute around the 68th minute and shortly after he made a telling contribution to the outcome of the match. Michael Ademiluyi a constant threat down the right flank, got to the by line and floated in a cross, Parker with real intent raced in at the near post and with a glancing header past the keeper, inside the six yard box, put Valley back in front.
Shortly after Lisbie had a header saved by Cromer in the Oaks goal who later also blocked an Ademiluyi effort but the game finished without too many alarms at either end. Valley did what was necessary and despite seven additional minutes held out for the win. With news filtering through that Ramsgate could only draw at home to Sittingbourne it was turning out to be a good April Fools day for the "green army" as their pursuit of the league title continues.
