Two goals from Dan Bennett topped the menu as Valley feasted on three points on their return home from Gay Dawn Farm.
After slow burner of a first half, the game burst into life in a second half featuring three goals, a sending off, and a plethora of near misses and last ditch defending.
A Connor Dymond header from a Bennett free kick was the only incident worthy of note in a quiet opening dominated by Valley before Hoops had an appeal for a penalty turned down shortly before the half hour,
After giving the ball away cheaply to Osgar Housego just outside the penalty area, Dymond managed to recover and block the striker’s goalbound effort amid ships as Hoops eyes turned to referee Joseph Gray hoping that an arm was involved.
Then, bursting forward on the break, Cem Tumkaya won a challenge with Daniel Correia Lopes on the edge of the 18 yard area before a swift interchange between Bennett and Adam Coombes saw the former shoot narrowly wide.
Hassan Ibrahiym was denied by Hoops keeper Daniel Colmer at close range after being set up by Tom Chambers as Valley’s left sided wing back threatened plate, before former Millers’ youngster Jack Beerling’s cross was headed goalwards by Harry Sargent, forcing Chris Lewington to fist the ball to safety at the other end.
With Trey Williams replacing Denzel Gayle at the interval, the match burst into action on the hour mark.
Kershaney Samuels passed the ball out to the enterprising Chambers on the left whose low cross into the heart of the six yard box was somehow pushed onto the post by Williams from fully 2 yards. Fortunately for Valley, the ball rebounded into the path of Bennett who needed no second invitation to open the scoring.
This stung the Hoops into action as skipper James Billings met Housego’s free kick from the right with a header that Lewington was happy to push for a corner.
The resultant corner created further consternation in the visitors’ rearguard as a melee in the six yard box saw Lewington make an excellent sprawling save from Sargent at close range.
After a further goalmouth scramble from the third successive corner, Valley’s rearguard action was finally breeched as Billings’ effort was deflected into the path of Daniel Pepple whose close range effort was deemed by the referee’s assistant to have crossed the line, despite vociferous protest from the Valley defenders.
The long looping throws of Beerling were causing increasing confusion in the Valley defence, but the youngster was next to enter the referee’s notebook after bringing down Bennett on the left.
It was from an attack down the right side however that the visitors restored their lead.
Substitute Riley Asaam broke through to the Corinthian bye line before pulling the ball back for Bennett to fire past Colmer at the second attempt.
Hoops centre back Sargent was shown a second yellow card for an agricultural lunge on Asaam as the hosts started to lose their discipline, but Valley held out with few further alarms to clinch their second win of the season.
