Our Opponents:
Chesham United were promoted to the National South last season having been champions of the Southern League Premier Division. Like ourselves they also reached the first round proper of the FA Cup last season going out to Maidstone United. Joint managers James Duncan and Michael Murphy were appointed in November 2018 after a successful period at Potters Bar Town. Nicknamed 'The Generals' they have made a good start to their league campaign and currently sit in 9th place with 13 points from 8 games, winning their last three matches, away at both Welling United 3-1 and Salisbury 2-1 followed by a home victory 3-2 on Saturday against Aveley.
The club formed in 1917 have a long history, arguably their greatest achievement to date was their FA Amateur Cup cup run of 1967/68 when they went all the way from the Preliminary round to the final losing 1-0 to Leytonstone in front of a Wembley crowd of 54,000. Even before last season's exploits they have enjoyed previous success in the FA Cup in recent times reaching the second round proper in 2015/16 winning 1-0 away at Football League side Bristol Rovers before going out to Bradford City. They also reached the first round proper the following season losing 2-1 to Peterborough.
The Millers:
This will undoubtedly be a tough test for Valley as they seek a repeat of last season's FA Cup heroics. They will be encouraged by the excellent start to their league campaign where they currently sit in 4th place on 12 points from 6 matches. Saturday's game marks the Millers 'debut' of the new 100 seater stand which has been installed at the Artic Stadium by Elite Stands. It is one of a number of new additions / initiatives planned over the next month or so as the club looks to improve the ground facilities following promotion.
Enjoy the game it promises to be compelling viewing.
