Steve McKimm and his Millers team bring their pre-season to a close with a trip to Chertsey Town. The Curfews as their are known will be remembered by many as our opponents in the FA Vase final 2019 at Wembley. Both teams and fans enjoying a truly memorable day out, the Curfews of course winning 3-1 after extra time. Last season saw the two teams enjoy unprecedented success, both winning their respective divisions to gain promotion to step 3 and both only losing one league game in the process. The similarities didn't end there both had identical goal differences, scored 103 conceded 32 albeit Valley from 38 games and Chertsey from 40.
Now managed by Mark Harper the Curfews last played step 3 in season 1996/97 and having won the Isthmian League South Central title will this season play in the Southern League Premier South. The Millers of course will be plying heir trade in the Isthmian Premier Division, all sponsored by Pitching In.
The Curfews have just announced the return of last seasons leading goalscorer Gianluca Botti who scored 31 goals including 27 in the league last season. Their pre-season so far has included victories over Badshot Lea 2-1 and Slough Town 3-1 followed by a 2-0 defeat against Chesham United.
Clearly for both teams the focus will quickly turn to next weeks league opener but for now it will be a good test for two of last seasons most successful sides.
